Ferrari 246GT Dino, 1967
1/24
Testors
The Dino sports car started as an exercise to produce a small high performance GT (as opposed to the bigger V-12 Ferraris). The car was produced from 1967 to 1974, and has a longitudinal (sideways) V-6 engine which produced 195 hp which got it to 146 mph. It was finally discontinued because Enzo Ferrari felt it didn’t have enough performance potential compared to the then-current Porsche 911S. The 246 was the first Ferrari produced in high numbers - about 3,000 Dinos were built, including 1,100 Spyders.
The car was named after Enzo’s first son Alfredo, who was nicknamed Dino, who had died years earlier at the age of 24. It is interesting to note that the car never carried the name “Ferrari” but was only sold as a Dino.
The model was a Testor’s kit in 1/24 - the yellow box, which all have a high quality and are excellent kits. The engine is painted, but there are no extra goodies added.
