Tamiya’s 1:35 scale No. 257 Russian Medium Tank T-55A is another outstanding kit when built out of the box, but I had some extras that I couldn’t resist trying out. First, I added Miniarm’s T-55 conversion set that provided extra detail for the gun mantlet cover, fuel tanks, hatches, ammo cans and a sundry photo etch. Next I added CMK’s T-55A driver’s station and a turned aluminum 100-mm barrel. Finally I built her a set of Model Kasten’s SK-59 working tracks. These took some effort, but the resulting saggy look can’t be beat. That set even included a realistic spare track fender rack. Primed with black Mr. Surfacer, I painted it with AK paints and satin sealer and lightly weathered it to represent a Polish tank from Warsaw Pact days on parade on a rainy day.
