Tiger I, Mid Production
1/35
Tamiya (35194)
Cavalier Zimmerit
Model Kasten Tracks
I built this Tiger in 2004. It sat on a shelf in the basement for almost 20 years. I recently used it to experiment with the application of a number of weathering techniques.

Materials and Processes
Vehicle:
Brought up to current standard by cleaning up seams, patching bad joints, removing the turret MG34, and wiring the Notek headlamp. Some guide horns on tracks were broken out as seen in may in theater vehicles
Full repaint done to upper hull, with particular attention paid to the winter white camo.
Some preliminary weathering done with primer red paint applied with kitchen scrounge pad.
Vallejo and Mig washes applied.
Vallejo weathering powders, and model railroad “Smoke” powders applied and blended in some areas, then fixed with flat varnish.
AK Interactive weathering pencils applied then blended using water and a #10 paintbrush.
Flat varnish applied to seal everything.
Vallejo Eastern European Mud applied with a large brush with bristles cut close to the ferrule. Mig Dark Mud then applied over Vallejo Mud base. The surface was textured while the mud products were still wet using the trimmed brush in a straight up and down tapping motion.
Vallejo clear water and Woodland Scenics Water Ripples added to tracks and running gear
Base:
Insulation foam cut to size and covered with plaster cloth.
Brush painted with Vallejo Flat Black.
Mud applied in same manner as described in vehicle section, above.
Two rows of tread marks were impressed into the mud while still wet.
AK interactive grasses and leaves applied.
Rocks (driveway gravel) added to ditch and minimum Vallejo Clear Water applied.
Constructed plywood base with birch veneer applied to sides, then painted dark grey and weathered with dry brushed light grey.
Figure:
Warriors – painted from period reference photos and web-researched images
